Multiple Sclerosis, or MS, is a debilitating, chronic disease that attacks the central nervous system. Myelin, the protective coating on nerve fibers, is gradually destroyed. In severe cases of MS, the patient is confined to a wheelchair, and possibly rendered unable to move, see or speak.

What causes Multiple Sclerosis?

Multiple Sclerosis is thought to be a genetic ailment of the autoimmune system. While no single gene has been isolated to confirm this theory, it is believed that genetic susceptibility to certain viruses and toxins may play a role in diagnosis. According to the National MS Society, this disease affects as many as 400,000 Americans annually.
